2nd Annual Hands-On Training Percutaneous Access Course for Residents
John Pattaras, MD, Kenneth Ogan, MD, and Aaron Lay, MD, led Emory Urology's second annual hands-on training course for percutaneous access for the department's residents at Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital on February 4th, 2017. After didactic lectures on techniques and advances in percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), residents rotated between four different stations with inanimate models for hands-on training in ureteroscopy, PCNL stone extraction techniques, and use of fluoroscopy to perform percutaneous access for PCNL. "The ability to obtain percutaneous access is an important skill-set that will be advantageous for Emory trained residents in their future practices," says Dr. Lay. This course also allowed trainees to become familiar with different products available for endoscopic stone surgery. The event was sponsored by Cook Urological and Karl Storz Endoscopy.
