2014 DAISY Award For Extraordinary Nurses

Ms. I. Jane Kimberl (Urology)

Ms. Jane Kimberl received the 2014 DAISY Award. Mr. Kimberl graciously accepted the award in a ceremony attended by many satff and colleagues on December 9, 2014. The DAISY award recognizes Extraordinary Nurses who make an enourmous difference in the lives of so many people by the super-human work they do every day. Ms. Kimberl is the first surgical nurse to receive this honor. She received a certificate (below), a hand sculpture entitled "A Healer's Touch" (below) and the famous DAISY award pin.

Jane grew up in Brunswick, Georgia. She excelled as a nurse to become the Charge Nurse of the Pre-operative Care Unit at the Atlanta VA Medical Center. Under her leadership, she developed the Ambularory Surgery Unit to become the premium program in the OR responsible for 80% of the operative cases. In 2000, she joined the urology section as the senior urology nurse in the operating room and endourology suites. She is often heard describing her job as "The best job I ever had" and she remained dedicated and loyal to urology department over the years. During her career, Jane has had the great fortune to be supported by her husband Clif, her daughter Kelly and her two grandchildren who continually provide lifetime joy.
